Published in 1911, The Young Pitcher is perhaps Grey’s best baseball work. Far from an outside observer, Zane attended the University of Pennsylvania on a baseball scholarship, long before giving scholarships to atheletes was the norm. Brother “Reddy” Grey spent many years in the minor leagues and played in one major league game for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1903.
